Timings dependent upon the Stonehenge Experience
Dependant upon disembarkation time, I meet you and your party at your cruise ship and we set off towards the New Forest which dates back to the time of William the Conqueror who used it to pursue his love of hunting. We pass the spot where his grandson King William II was killed by a stray arrow. The New Forest is also home to 3,000 wild ponies that roam freely alongside pigs and cattle.
Heading over Punchbowl Hill the Cathedral Spire comes into view just as it did for the medieval pilgrims. Passing by Salisbury we travel along narrow country lanes alongside the river Avon towards Stonehenge. Through picturesque villages with thatched cottages we see the house that William Pitt, after whom Pittsburgh is named, once resided. A little further we pass the house of the singer/songwriter “Sting” and travel amongst the fields of barley that inspired his haunting song “Fields of Gold”. We also see the little church to which Sting took Madonna and her then newly wedded husband, Guy Ritchie, to Midnight Mass at Christmas time during their honeymoon whilst they stayed at Sting’s house.
Stonehenge. A new Visitor Centre at Stonehenge includes an exhibition. After viewing the exhibition a “Land Train” will take you to Stonehenge. You will be given an audio guide, available in 10 languages, by English heritage. Your time here should be approx.1hr 30 minutes
Depart Stonehenge and drive over Salisbury Plain famous for crop circles.
The Old Mill at Harnham is close to the spot chosen by John Constable for his iconic painting of Salisbury Cathedral and offers a wonderful view of the Cathedral across the water-meadows seldom seen by visiting tourists
We are now in medieval Salisbury and you have 60 minutes to stroll around independently. You might like to take some lunch in one of the many restaurants and café’s catering for every taste. Walk around the market square with fish & chips or take a sandwich to the riverside for a picnic. Check out the special offers available for our guests at Greengages Café and Coté Brasserie

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Stonehenge and Avebury with Chris. He was pleasant and informative: he had a good knowledge of the history of the area, but also had entertaining stories to tell.
